We often call someone “very blessed” when life appears smooth—a stable career, a loving family, supportive friends. But in Chinese metaphysics, blessings come in two layers: Fu Qi (福气) and Fu De (福德).
Fu Qi is the outward flow of luck, comfort, and opportunity you can see and feel. When Fu Qi is strong, doors open and life feels effortless. Yet Fu Qi is cyclical—rising and falling with time and with the quality of one’s mind.
Fu De = Fu Qi + Virtue (德行)
Fu De is the fortune nourished by moral cultivation—the merits accumulated through compassion, honesty, generosity, restraint, and gratitude. Fu Qi enhances your luck; Fu De sustains your life’s blessings.
Zi Wei Dou Shu: The Mental Palace (福德宫)
In Zi Wei Dou Shu, Fu De aligns with the Mental Palace (福德宫), which reflects inner well-being and the capacity for joy.
When this palace shows no negative impact (e.g., no Ji 忌 transformation), it signals a good foundation.
Tian Tong (天同) in the Mental Palace often indicates a gentle, contented heart and an easy start in blessings.
But an auspicious start isn’t the finish line. To continue the flow of blessings, keep cultivating your virtue; Guard the mind, Refine speech, Act with compassion, and Return to gratitude with humility.
